Christ the King Lutheran Church will hold a children’s pageant and Christmas services on Dec. 24. The church is at 3330 Route 27, Kendall Park section of South Brunswick. The pageant will be at 10:30 a.m. Christmas Eve services will be held at 5, 7:30 and 11 p.m., and the regular 9.m. Sunday morning service will be canceled. Hebrew union presents ‘Introduction to Judaism’ The Union of American Hebrew Congregations will present "Introduction to Judaism" Jan. 23-May 8, 7:45-9:45 p.m. The 16-week course will be held Tuesday evenings at Congregation Beth Chaim, 329 Village Road East, Princeton Junction. The course deals with topics such as the Jewish calendar; customs and rituals concerning birth, marriage and death; and the Sabbath and Jewish holidays. YMCA to host lifeguard, swim instructor training The South Brunswick Family YMCA will be conducting lifeguard and swim-instructor certification classes Dec. 26-29. The courses are open to area adults and youth age 16 and older. All participants must have intermediate or above swimming ability. With the YMCA opening its new facility on Culver Road this January, its is seeking to train a large number of guards and instructors as potential employees. South Brunswick to welcome Santa Dec. 17 The Kendall Park, Kingston and Monmouth Junction Fire Departments wish to alert South Brunswick’s residents to the arrival of Santa Claus Dec. 17, noon to 4 p.m. Santa will be on a firetruck and will visit all areas of South Brunswick. St. Augustine seeks crafters and vendors St. Augustine of Canterbury School is currently looking for crafters and general merchandisers for its pre-spring craft show/flea market. The show is scheduled for Feb. 10. Individuals reserving tables before Dec. 31 will receive $5 off the rental price. Rutgers Glee Club to perform at conference The Rutgers University Glee Club, New Brunswick, has been selected to perform at the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) conference in San Antonio, Texas, in March. The choral directors association is considered the premier showcase for national and international choral music. Glee club Director Dr. Patrick Gardner said, "This is one of the most significant professional achievements that a chorus can achieve. It is an honor to perform for our peers at this prestigious event." Blind audition tapes are reviewed by three separate committees, who rank their top 10 choices and top three choruses in several categories. Two men’s choruses, including the Rutgers Glee Club, were nominated and will perform this year. The glee club will perform "The Miracle," based on Arnold Weinstein’s poem of the same name. It is scored for wind ensemble and percussion, and the club will be joined by the Raritan Winds. The Winds is a quintet headed by clarinetist Anthony Pasquale, a professor at Mason Gross School of the Arts. Percussionists She-e Wu, head of percussion faculty at Mason Gross College of the Arts at Rutgers, and Tony Oliver will also perform. Animal shelter seeks good homes for pets Sayrebrook Pet Adoption Center, 1400 Main St., Sayreville, is seeking good homes for many dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. More than 75 pets (purebreds and mixed breeds) are available for adoption. Fees include all vaccinations and testing. The shelter is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays. Available pets also may be seen on the shelter’s Web site at www.sayrebrook.petfinder.org. Donations are welcome and may be dropped off during regular shelter hours. Especially needed are rawhide "chewies" or bones for dogs (to help eliminate the boredom of shelter life); cat litter (clay type, nonscoopable); canned and dry dog and cat food; pet toys; and cleaning supplies.
