PATRICIA J. PETERSON SCHMIDT, 72, of Spotswood died Sept. 29 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to her retirement in 1988, she worked for 25 years as a dental hygienist/office manager for Dr. Stanley Cohen, East Brunswick. Surviving are her husband, Richard W. Schmidt; a son, Frederick "Rick" Olsen of the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick; a daughter, Nancy Sarnak of Spotswood; three stepdaughters, Rosemary Stein of Pennington, Jacqueline Appignani of the Toms River section of Dover and Louise Olsen of Kendall Park; a sister, Karen Roman of South Plainfield; and eight grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick, with a liturgy at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Spotswood. Interment was in the church cemetery.

RITA R. HERMELIN WERFEL, 60, of East Brunswick died Oct. 4 at home. Surviving are her husband, Sandford; three sons, Scott of East Windsor, Erik of Cranford and Bruce of North Brunswick; a sister, Etta Castelluccio of Cedar Grove; and four grandchildren. Services were under the direction of Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. Interment was in Floral Park Cemetery, South Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple B’nai Shalom, East Brunswick, or to the American Cancer Society.

EDMUND V. ZIELINSKI, 80, of East Brunswick died Oct. 6 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. His wife, Lucia Gizzi Zielinski, died in 1993. Surviving are two daughters, Ann Zielinski of North Brunswick and Mary Smith of East Brunswick, and a sister, Cecelia Witkowski of South Amboy. Services were arranged by Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick, with a Mass at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
