Too many unanswered questions

Monday’s liquor license renewal hearing for the Heartbreakers go-go bar in North Brunswick raises a lot of interesting questions, ones the Township Council needs answers to before even considering renewing the license.

For some mysterious reason, the attorney for the club does not know anything about a complaint about violations of Alcoholic Beverage Control regulations.

Police reportedly have a tape showing the illegal activity, but the attorney and owner of the club say they have never seen it, nor do they know anything about the complaint.

There is also confusion about a criminal incident that took place at the club the same night the tape allegedly revealed the illegal activity.

A police report indicates there was an apparent stabbing, but again, those who testified on behalf of the club at the license hearing, seemed to know nothing about it.

The council tabled the vote on the license renewal until next Monday to give both sides time to try to resolve the disparities.

It also tabled the matter because the township’s ABC officer was not present.

By denying a liquor license to Virgo’s, another township go-go bar, North Brunswick officials have shown they do not take this type of activity lightly. Township residents need to support them in their effort to enforce the letter of the law.
